University of Washington Employee Files Harassment Suit

December 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Seattle, Washington – Emily Carleton, an employee of the University of Washington, has filed a sexual harassment suit seeking $500,000 from the university in connection with her claim that Paul Brown, campus housing director and Carleton’s boss, harassed her over a period of seven weeks earlier this year. During that time, Carleton alleges that Brown engaged in overly effusive expressions of praise and unwanted touching.

Carleton also suggests that Brown tendered an inappropriate offer of employment for a position that she, by her own admission, was not qualified to hold – a position that was offered in conjunction with Brown’s explicit annunciation of his love for her.

The $500,000 suit is a far cry from the $1,500 settlement that the university reportedly offered to Carleton in exchange for a guarantee that she would not pursue the matter further. She is now working from home and Brown has been transferred to another, newly created position at the University of Washington, in which he retains his full $140,000 annual salary.
