Labor union officials are hoping that President Elect Barack Obama and his administration will pass certain pieces of legislation that failed to make it out of the House or Senate in previous years. Obama ran on a strong pro-union platform during his campaign, and union members are hoping that the relationship between Democrats and unions will continue to strengthen after suffering setbacks during the Clinton administration.
Some pieces of legislation that may be introduced in 2009 include legal protection against discrimination for the LGBT community, a repeal of the statute of limitations for wage discrimination suits, and a Paycheck Fairness Act designed to make it more difficult for employees to find loopholes in employment law.
