UPS Faces Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

October 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Nieland Bynoe of Harrisburg, PA, has filed a lawsuit against UPS Freight claiming that he was fired from his new job as a delivery driver for discriminatory reasons. According the suit, Bynoe attended an orientation meeting in 2007 where he was told that he would have to shave his beard and cut off his dreadlocks to comply with corporate policy. Bynoe, a Rastafarian, explained that the style has religious significance to him and requested an exemption under laws that protect workers from religious discrimination. Instead, according to the suit being filed by the Equal Opportunity in Employment Commission, he was immediately fired. UPS Freight has not commented on the story.
