A former Apple network engineer filed a lawsuit last Monday. The case centers around the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which dictates overtime by certain professions be compensated. The plaintiff alleges networking professionals, engineers, administrators, and support-staff are covered by the FLSA, and Apple wrongfully exempted them.
In order for the workers to be exempt from overtime compensation, Apple will have demonstrate that their work requires independent judgment and is not a series of predetermined tasks.
